A.C. Gilbert's Discovery Village is an interactive children's museum with exhibits contained within three historic buildings, each constructed in a distinct architectural style. Areas like the "Village Grocery," where children can pretend-shop at the store, and "A Child's Trip to China," which allows children to explore aspects of Chinese culture, give youngsters a chance to explore both their own world and the lives of others. Other exhibits, such as "Body Basics" and the "La 'ball' atory" give in-depth examples and hands-on activities relating to everyday biological, chemical and physical interactions. Located by the Willamette River in downtown's Riverfront Park, nearby attractions include Salem's Riverfront Carousel and the Oregon State Capitol building.
