Designed to imitate the historical carousels found around the country in the early 1900s, Salem's Riverfront Carousel is beautifully decorated and incredibly popular with children. Its 34 wooden horses and foals were hand-carved and painted by community volunteers, with each animal having its own unique design, coloring and ornamentation. The carousel is located in Riverfront Park near downtown Salem, just east of the Willamette River.
