Completed in 1938, the Modern Greek-style Oregon State Capitol is the heart of the state's political structure; its tower is capped by a monumental sculpture of an Oregon pioneer, commemorating the state's long westward-bound history. Visitors to the capitol can stroll the building's beautifully landscaped grounds, including statues and fountains, or catch a tour of the building's interior led by a trained guide. Located in the heart of Salem, the capitol is just north of Willamette University's campus, near the Mission Mill Museum.
